Cultural Kannawidan Ylocos Festival

Ilocos Sur is a lovely province located in the northern part of Luzon. It is a culturally rich province that represents ancient Spanish and Filipino ancestors. To show and start sharing their treasures with the whole world, The "Kannadiwan Festival" is an event created by the locals to showcase these cultural traditions. It is a month-long celebration that takes place from the last week of January to the first week of February. The commemoration of the province's founding day is included in the schedule of events. It is the Ilocanos' way of thanking the Almighty for the abundant blessings as well as the city's rich heritage, which includes close family ties among the Ilocanos.

Every year, the people of Ilocos Sur look forward to this festival. A festival that is always full of joy and pride, evoking the rich culture that runs through our veins. The province of Ilocos Sur has a diverse culture and traditions to offer. The infamous ilocos empanada, sinful yet savory longganisa, and the abel iloco, to name a few, are examples of our products. This not only displays the products, but also the Ilocanos' way of life.

Kannawidan is significant to the lives of the Ilocanos, it is a festival where Ilocano people showcase cultural shows, native products, and their talents. It has evolved into an annual event to raise awareness about the preservation of the province's rich culture and heritage, practices and traditions, and an illustration of the various agricultural and industrial products of Ilocos Sur.

Though the cheers we used to hear will be different. But the fire that burns in our hearts will never go out. Our culture and traditions are the very treasures we have and will pass down to the next generation. Problems such as the pandemic do not cause our pride in our culture to wane. We'll meet again as this passes.
