Bigueño’s Favorite Holiday!

Yet again, the Christmas spirit is in the air. Christmas, one of the most joyous occasions, has arrived. It's that time of year when you want to give and spend time with our loved ones. Christmas is only witnessed yearly, but as the saying goes, Christmas is celebrated every day as long as there is love in our daily life. The citizens of Vigan, known as Bigueños, loves celebrating Christmas, or "paskwa" and they are very festive.

Bigueños always celebrate this occasion very unique, they put a lot of love and effort to it. It's sad to think that the pandemic is limiting our fun interactions with all of our loved ones. But, even in the midst of a pandemic, we find ways to celebrate the cherished holiday, and for that, we must always be grateful that simply having the opportunity to celebrate this holiday is a gift. Every day from December 9 to 24, people attend a mass at 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., which Bigueños refer to as "Simbang Gabi." Before the pandemic, Christmas was very lively; you could hear Christmas songs being played very loudly, and many people went caroling. However, due to the pandemic, the experience of a very lively holiday was limited.

Bigueños are very festive, and even if there is a pandemic, you can still feel the Christmas spirit. Being loved, exchanging hugs, giving presents, and eating a variety of delectable foods at Noche Buena are the best ways to celebrate the holiday with your dear ones. We face the pandemic and our problems with positivity, and we face them all together. Celebrating Christmas in this lovely city with our loved ones is one of the best memories we could all have.
